About Samsung

Samsung are the world’s largest electronics company. They were founded way back in 1938 but have grown to become the world’s largest conglomerate. The Samsung group comprises numerous different affiliated businesses all kept under the Samsung umbrella. These include Samsung Electronics, Samsung Heavy Industries and Samsung C&T, a construction company. These three form the basis of the Samsung empire and at the same time reflect the meaning of the brand name in Korean – ‘three stars’.

The revenue of Samsung is bigger than the GDP of some small countries and despite the global recession continues to grow. In 1995 it designed its first LCD panel, and by 2005 had grown to become the world’s largest manufacturer of them, demonstrating Samsung’s staggering ability to take hold of a market. On top of all that Samsung is now the biggest manufacturer of RAM chips, flash memory and optical storage.

Samsung is now ranked 19th in the world overall, and is a truly global brand. This is reflected in its international image and the amount it has spent on marketing over the past decade. It owns a football club, a baseball club, a basketball club and excitingly, even a volleyball club. It has also invested massive amounts of money on worldwide sponsorship deals to really push its brand and drive it into homes across the globe. Indeed, South Korea is even referred to by some as ‘The Republic of Samsung’, although it is not expected that this title will become official any time soon.
